IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR INDOOR 2007/ OUTDOOR 2008 Posted AUGUST 27, 2007

As you consider your registration options there are few very important changes that you should be aware of.

1. For the first time ever, Foothills will be registering U4-U8 community players in addition to our U10-U18 players. This is a direct result of our newly established relationships with Deer Park and Deer Ridge communities. U10-U18 players from Lake Bonavista will also be registering with us.

Our U6 House League plays with children from Lake Bonavista Soccer, Deer Park Soccer (Deer Run and Parkland) and Deer Valley Soccer (Queensland and Deer Ridge). The league has practices/games on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm at local schools, from October to mid-March. The cost for this program is $120, which includes a wind-up party and medal.

The TimBits (CMSA) League has practices on Monday or Tuesday evenings at a local school, and then games at the Calgary Soccer Centre on weekends (games alternate Saturday and Sunday). The season also runs from October to the mid-March. The cost for this program is $225, which includes a wind-up party and medal.

Mini-Soccer format (from "TimBits Coaches Kit" produced by the CMSA)
- Small sided game (3 players) in a small gym
- 6 to 8 players per team (mixed - boys and girls)
- 30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game
- Lots of touches of the ball
- Learn the indoor rules of the game
- All players actively involved in the game
- Coaching theory "let the game be the teacher"
- Soccer triangle (basic concept of soccer)
- Coaches play the role of educators - no penalties for rule violations, just explanations

Equipment Provided: Socks (kept by the player at the end of the season); Tim Bits game jerseys and shorts (returned at the end of the season, subject to a $25 Uniform Deposit).

Equipment Required: indoor soccer shoes (no cleats) or running shoes, and shin protectors (mandatory).

2. Foothills has expanded its Competitive team ranks with several new teams joining Foothills for some fun soccer.

3. Premier Divisions. There is to be some very significant changes in the Premier divisions starting this fall. Please pay special attention to his.

a. No more U13, U15, U17 age groups. Teams will be formed as U14,Y16 and U18 age groups.
b. Teams wanting to play Tier I in any given age group will have to apply through their club to CMSA to play in Tier I by submitting team resumes for CMSA's review.
c. IT IS PROPOSED the new Tier I season would actually start in September with an 4 week OUTDOOR cup style of event (excepting this Indoor season due to time constraints - see below). This event would allow the Tier I teams to evaluate players trying out for these Tier I teams in a game setting prior to the indoor season. Subsequently, Tier I teams would not start indoor seasonal play until January allowing players time to rest, heal, train and prepare for the upcoming year of play. The Tier I indoor season would consist of roughly 8 games over 8 to 9 weeks from January to March ending at Indoor Provincials.
d. The Outdoor 2008 CMSA Tier I season would consist of approx 12 games to establish Provincial contenders, starting in early May and run to the Thursday prior to the August Long Weekend and allow for a training break during the ASA season.

2008 INDOOR SPECIAL NOTE: THE PROPOSED TIER 1 FALL CUP EVENT WILL NOT TAKE PLACE THIS FALL DUE TO SEVERE TIME CONSTRAINTS AND WILL BE SUBSTITUTED WITH EXTRA GAMES STARTING IN DECEMBER. HOWEVER TIER 1 TEAMS MUST STILL SUBMIT A THEIR RESUMES THROUGH THEIR CLUB TO CMSA BEFORE SEPTEMBER 5TH WITH FINAL LEAGUE STRUCTURE ANNOUNCED BY MID SEPTEMBER. PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR REGISTRATION EARLY DURING THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER TO CONFIRM THE TEAM SUBMISSIONS TO CMSA.

4. There will no longer be a separate Tier II and III grouping. They will be combined and any club can enter team(s) into this grouping and rank each of their team (should they have more than one). The seeding round format will depend on the number of teams entered into this group. At the end of the seeding round, the top number of teams (to be determined when the format is original created) will advance to Tier II playoffs, and the remaining teams will advance to Tier III playoffs. Top finishers in Tier II and III will advance to ASA provincials. This Tier II / III format is to be used in both the indoor and the outdoor seasons. The indoor season will consist of approx 16 games and the outdoor season will consist of approx 14 games to allow for proper training, development and rest for the players.

5. Competitive A. No change in the indoor season format. Teams will be placed into seeding groups and after seeding round play, be placed into playoff groups to determine who advance to Tier IV provincials and to Inter-Cities Competitions. They will start in October and end in March.

6. Competitive B. No change in the indoor season format. Groups and formats will be based on the number or teams entered and which clubs they enter from. Their indoor season will run from October to end of February. For their post season play, all teams will be entered into the Spring Cup which will be played in the month of March.

7. Competitive Travel. CMSA is attempting to reduce cross city travel and will try where ever possible to group teams geographically. For the months of April, May, and June, teams will play other teams within their group during the weekdays and play teams in other groups on the weekend. For July playoffs, the clubs will enter their teams into the level of competition they want to compete for (Tier IV Provincials or one of the Inter-Cities Tiers). CMSA reserves the right to move a team into a different group for playoffs if they deem it to be necessary. Clubs do not have to put their teams into the July playoffs if they do not want to.

8. U10. The U10 indoor program will remain unchanged. There will be a seeding and playoff round followed by a Spring Cup in the month of March. Any contemplated changes for U10 Outdoor will be announced before the end of the Indoor season.

9. U8 and U6 Indoor and Outdoor programs will remain unchanged.

10. Revised Indoor Soccer game format (Boardless vs Arena ball)

a. U14 and U16 Tier I will continue for another indoor season to play revised indoor soccer.
b. U12 Tier I will also play revised indoor soccer this upcoming season.
c. All other levels of play and age groups not noted above will play indoor arena soccer.
