Here at Foothills we understand that the Try Out process can be a nervous time for some players and a perceived foregone conclusion for others, therefore we have implemented a 5 Step process designed to give a fair assessment to new and existing players alike.
Step 1: Historical Data
U10 & U12 Process: Given that these players are relatively new to the club or game we do not have too much information on them, therefore we have designed Soccer Specific Skills Tests to help assist us in the initial sorting of our younger players.
U14 - U18 Process: At the end of each season, our coaches compile a seasonal evaluation report and recommendations for the Technical staff. This helps keep us updated with how players are continuing to perform. New players to the club at will either look to create a reputation or enter the club via coach or player recommendations.
Step 2: Small Sided Games (SSG)
U10 & U12 Process: Following the Skills Tests, the players will be placed in an initial sort for their first set of small sided games. Independent evaluators will then rank their performances and provide recommendations for the Technical Staff. On reviewing the SSG evaluations, there maybe a additional SSG evaluation to ensure a thorough process is followed.
U14 - U18 Process: There will be two SSG evaluations, with the first set being by year of birth and the second will be sorted into tentative tiered levels. Please note that this does not mean this will be the final placement, as players can be moved up or down at anytime before or after the second set of SSG evaluations. All Tier 1-3 players will be assessed by the club's Technical staff.
Step 3: Pre-Season Roster
Following the completion of the Step 2 stage of our try outs, we then place players into "Pre-Season Rosters". This is generally a 2 week period where players will then train and play exhibition games with their assigned teams and team coach and that allows for a more in depth assessment of correct player placement. At any point during this stage, players can be moved up or down in order to ensure we assign players that are like minded and like skilled together.
Step 4: Final Roster
At the completion of our Pre Season period, the Technical Staff discusses the final roster with each team coach. Along with the above information and the team coaches recommendations, the Technical Staff finalize all rosters for the forthcoming season.
Step 5: Appeals Process
Upon the posting of the final rosters, players and parents will have a 7-day window in order to appeal their team placement which will be reviewed by the Technical Staff and Technical Committee. Following the review of each appeal a decision will be made to either;
a) Grant the appeal
b) Deny the appeal
c) Extend the Pre Season roster stage
Good Luck!
